AN off-duty policeman who died after being attacked on a night out is believed to have been killed by a single punch.
PC Gareth Francis, 28, is thought to have hit his head on the pavement after being struck. He died later in hospital.
The officer was walking home with pals after earlier watching his team Man City play Fulham.
He was less than a mile from the home he shares with his policewoman girlfriend in Edgeley, Stockport, when he was set upon.
Last night PC Francis’ parents Roy and Rita paid tribute to their “gorgeous, amazing” son.
Ian Hanson, chairman of Greater Manchester Police Federation, said he was a “much-loved and well-respected” officer.
Three local men — two aged 20 and another 21 — were last night being questioned on suspicion of murder.
